Smrka
Blackpool, United Kingdom
Always on the move between Blackpool and Manchester, Smrka is a drum and bass producer who arrived on the scene just before lockdown. Smrka draws inspiration from her early exposure to rave music. On the festival scene from a young age, and growing up with a family who were breakdancing in ‘89 at the Hacienda where it all began, she has a deep love for the oldskool at the root of her sound.
Smrka’s introduction to DJing was via promoting nights in Newcastle for renowned jungle night, Lively UP at World Headquarters. After her involvement at this club night, and following one encouraging conversation at the bass mecca Boomtown, she gained the confidence to pursue music from a creative perspective and learned how to produce and DJ. She is still studying advanced production skills at School of Electronic Music Manchester.
With a nod to the past and a fierce selection of the present, her mixes bring the vibes from early jungle and breakbeat right through to halftime and heavy rollers. This cutting, cultivated approach to drum & bass paired with her love of sound design means you can expect a fusion of 90s and modern sounds on her forthcoming releases.
Smrka plans to perform at live events and work in collaboration with other artists, on releases, graphic design, and those good old B2Bs.
